The Texas Longhorns take the top spot in the inaugural 2008 BCS rankings for college football, which were released Sunday.
The BCS rankings will ultimately determine which two teams will play in the BCS national championship game in January.
The Longhorns are followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide, Penn State Nittany Lions, Oklahoma Sooners and USC Trojans, who round out the top five.
The top three mirrors the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll. However, there are a few significant differences. Florida Gators are ranked #5 in the AP, but are #10 in the BCS. Oklahoma State Cowboys and Georgia Bulldogs are ranked higher in the BCS standings than in either of the USA Today or AP rankings.
The Big 12 has six teams in the top 25 of the BCS rankings, including four in the top 10. The SEC has four overall, all of which are in the top 15.
