Monday Night Football Schedule: New England Patriots Host Denver Broncos
The New England Patriots will host the Denver Broncos in an AFC battle on Monday Night Football.
The Patriots have had a rough season since the season-ending injury of quarterback Tom Brady in their opening game. After coming one game short of an undefeated season last year, the Patriots were expected to be close to perfect this season.
However, Brady went down with a knee injury as the Patriots' hopes fell with him. The Pats are now 3-2, but rank in the bottom half of the NFL in every major offense category.
Matt Cassel stepped in to replace Brady despite not starting since high school. Cassel was the back-up at USC behind Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart, two Heisman Trophy winners, and then Brady in New England.
Randy Moss is also struggling offensively this season. Moss has just 300 yards and two TDs in his first five games this season, in comparison to 551 yards and seven TDs last season.
The Broncos, on the contrary, have one of the NFL's most potent offenses. Led by Jay Cutler, Denver is ranked second in total offense (399.7 ypg) and passing offense (279.3), and is sixth in scoring offense (27.7 ppg).
Cutler is fourth in the NFL in passing yards with 1,694. His favorite targets are Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal. Marshall is second in the NFL in receiving yards per game and leads the NFL in receptions per game. Royal is one of the league's best rookie receivers.
Although the Broncos have the NFL's best defensive back in Champ Bailey, they have been disappointing this season.
