Nicole Richie had an elephant at her wedding to Joel Madden because they provide “good energy”.
The 29-year-old beauty – who married the Good Charlotte rocker earlier
this month - had always dreamed of having one of the creatures present
on her big day, and was even happier when it kissed her.
She said: “I love elephants and they’re good luck and have a good energy. The elephant actually gave me a kiss.”
However, her father, singer Lionel Richie – who hosted the wedding at
his Beverly Hills home - was concerned the creature may leave a mess at
the event, which luckily did not happen.
Asked if she was concerned about “calling cards”, she told Britain’s
HELLO! magazine: “I think that was my dad’s main concern! But it was
fine. I barely saw the elephant and I missed the cocktails.
“When it’s your wedding there are things you just don’t see.”
While having an elephant fulfilled a long-held dream for Nicole, her
decision to host the nuptials at her father’s home had been an equally
long-standing hope for the singer.
She said: “When he moved into that house, my dad always told me and my sister Sofia that he wanted us to get married there.
“My dad loves his family and takes it very, very seriously. It’s been
his dream for his children to get married at his house surrounded by
family and that’s exactly what happened. He’s a real family man.”
