Female ‘husband’
An Indian woman found out her ‘husband’ was actually a woman a year after living together.
Minati Khatua, 26, married 28-year-old Sitakant Routray in a traditional ceremony, where he received a substantial dowry including an Indica car, gold ornaments and more than £350 in cash.
However, Minati began to grow suspicious of her new husband as he refused any physical contact, claiming it was against his religion and she soon found out the truth after walking in on her spouse in the bath.
She said: “One day I managed to force open the bathroom door when he was having a bath. My worst fears came true. He was a woman."
Inspector Jyotirmaya Hota confirmed police were investigating the case.
