A building in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City is slated to become housing for those recovering from
drug and alcohol addiction. Hazelden is hoping to buy the building at 283 West Broadway.
"This particular program is for the college-age population that goes gotten themselves sober and now needs to begin getting back into school, and they need a safe environment in which to do that," said Mark Mishek, Hazelden's president and CEO. "There's a high danger of relapse for that population without it."
Before the purchase can take place, Hazelden will need to secure approval from New York's Office of
Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. By the summer of 2011, Hazelden hopes to utilize the second through sixth floors for up to 30 residents.
"It can be a very, very positive thing," said Ann Bray, a vice president of Hazelden. "There are no facilities quite like this in New York City."
