David Beckham is set to sign with AC Milan on loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy, according to reports Wednesday.
Under the proposed deal, Beckham, the Galaxy midfielder and former England captain, would join AC Milan in January and play there until the end of the season.
The Major League Soccer season finishes for the Galaxy on Sunday after the club failed to reach the MLS's end of season play-offs.
Beckham wants to join another football club in Europe so he can remain fit for World Cup qualifying. England coach Fabio Capello has said he will not pick players who are not active.
Beckham would join a dominant team that already includes Brazil standouts Ronaldinho, Kaka and Alexandre Pato, and Italy's Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso.
AC Milan has won 18 officially recognized international titles, the most by any club in the world (equal to Boca Juniors). The club have won what is today known as the UEFA Champions League on seven times, while winning 17 Serie A titles.
AC Milan added Ronaldinho from FC Barcelona in July. With the addition of Beckham, AC Milan will have arguably two of the three biggest stars in world soccer (Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo is the other).
The England World Cup team has a probable friendly against Spain lined up for February, a home friendly against Slovakia in March, plus World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine in April, and Kazakhstan and Andorra in June.
