Defective Crib Recall Alert Announced by Morgan & Morgan

The recall of 1.5 million defective cribs is being investigated by the attorneys at Morgan & Morgan (ForThePeople.com). The voluntary recall of the cribs was announced on October 21, 2008, by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in cooperation with Delta Enterprises Corp, a crib manufacturer located in New York. Consumers are warned that the cribs being recalled are potentially dangerous, and could cause serious injury or death to infants or toddlers.

This extensive crib recall was issued when it was discovered that 985,000 cribs were manufactured without the necessary safety pegs. Additionally, 600,000 cribs were manufactured and sold with a safety peg failure defect. As a result of these dangerous defects in the cribs, there have been reports of two infant deaths, two incidents of infant entrapment, and nine cases of disengagement. Because the safety pegs are missing, crib locks may be disengaged or detached, creating a dangerous gap, which poses an entrapment and suffocation hazard to babies in the crib.

The first recall affects 985,000 cribs that were missing safety pegs. These were manufactured in Taiwan and Indonesia and have the "crib trigger lock with safety peg" drop side design. These defective cribs were available at numerous major retailers, including Walmart, Kmart, and Target.com between January 1995 and September 2007. They retailed for approximately $100, and have also been found in secondhand retail stores. Cribs currently sold at retail are not involved in this recall.

The following crib models are being recalled: 4320, 4340, 4500, 4520, 4530, 4532, 4540, 4542, 4550, 4551, 4580, 4600, 4620, 4624 (production dates 01/06 thru 11/07), 4640, 4660, 4720, 4735, 4742, 4750 (production dates 01/95 thru 12/00), 4760, 4770, 4780, 4790, 4820, 4840, 4850, 4860, 4880, 4890, 4892, 4900, 4910, 4920, 4925-2, 4925-6, 4930, 4940, 4943, 4944, 4947, 4948, 4949, 4950, 4958, 4963, 4968, 4969, 4980. This information can be found on the mattress support board label.

The second major recall affects the 600,000 cribs with defective safety pegs. They were manufactured in China and were available at major retailers between January 2000 and January 2007, retailing for prices between $33 and $200. Again, this does not affect cribs currently being sold.

The following crib models are being recalled: 4340, 4343, 4520, 4600, 4620, 4624, 4625, 4629, 4660, 4665, 4720, 4750, 4751, 4850, 4855, 4857, 4880, 4920, 4925-2, 4925-2B, 4925-6, 4980, and 8605. This information can be found on the mattress support board label. The recalled cribs have Delta's name and address on the mattress support boards and Delta's logo on the teether rail.
