Police at Western Kentucky University Can’t Confirm Shooting on Campus

Despite reports coming from the campus of Western Kentucky University that indicated there were shots fired, police have swept the school’s south campus as well as the main campus and found no evidence of gunfire.

Early reports had said Pearce Ford Tower had been stormed by multiple gunmen and shots had been fired but police have entered the building and determined there had been no shots fired. Residence inside the hall told police they had not heard any gunfire.

The south campus of Western Kentucky University is home to the Bowling Green Community College.

There had also been reports of shots fired on the main campus of WVU but those have proven to be unfounded as well.

WVU posted a message on their Web site noting:

“The South Campus building on Nashville Road was evacuated earlier following reports that one or more persons were observed in the building with weapons. WKU Police, Bowling Green Police and State Police have conducted an extensive search of the building and the premises. At this time, the police have been unable to find any witnesses or evidence to support earlier reports that weapons were present.”

While there has been no confirmation of gunshots the school advised students and faculty remain indoors, posting a warning, “At this time, the campus emergency warning system has been activated. Students and employees have been advised to remain indoors, in secure areas, until an "all clear" is issued.”
