6.5 Earthquake Rattles Dozens Of Iran Villages, 7 Dead

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck the southeastern region of Iran Monday. At least 70 villages in Kerman province were affected by the tremor. So far, 7 people have died and dozens of others were injured. Authorities expect the death toll to rise as many villagers remain trapped under rubble in hard to reach areas of Kerman.

Rescuers continued working Tuesday to find the missing. Many phone lines in the area were out and rescuers could only communicate through wireless devices.

Kerman governor Esmail Najjar said the quake was felt in many cities including Bam, Zahedan, Khash and Iranshahr. The epicenter was located near Hosseinabad.
