In a difficult housing market, many pets have been abandoned in empty houses by their owners. Luckily, some are rescued when found by real estate agents, others however, have not been so lucky. Pets are dying inside their own homes because their owners leave them for dead. The Lost Our Home Pet Foundation aims to end this occurrence and stop pet abandonment.
Pet lovers and real estate agents have joined forces and created the Lost Our Home Pet Foundation to give pets another chance and companies like New Homes Section are using their real estate websites to spread the word about pet abandonment and what the foundation has to offer. The Lost Our Home Pet Foundation is a non-profit group of real estate professionals who rescue pets left behind due to foreclosures and financial hardships.
Their website, www.lostourhome.org offers a “Help Hotline” for pet owners in financial hardships. There is an option for temporary pet care, help with pet costs, and animal adoptions are available if keeping your pet is unfortunately not an option for you.
Paul Escobedo, co-founder of www.newhomessection.com, says he read about pet abandonment in the newspaper and knew he had to help. “I couldn’t stand the thought of these helpless pets suffering because of circumstances they could not control. Recognizing the stress of going through a foreclosure or eviction can prompt people to do things they may not normally do,” said Escobedo. He decided to take action by joining the board of directors of the Lost Our Home Pet Foundation and by using his company’s resources to help make the foundation and its cause known to as many people as possible. His hope is to spread the word to people with pets who are in difficult housing situations and let them know how to get help.
Escobedo and his partner own New Homes Section which offers everything from home builder incentives to new home and community listings. Many people, Realtors and consumers alike, visit their website. Having information about Lost Our Home Pet Foundation on their website vastly spreads the word to people in the industry or those searching for a new home and a new friend.
