Western Kentucky University (WKU) on Lockdown After Reports of Shooting, Gunman

Western Kentucky University is on lockdown Wednesday after reports swirled of a shooting on campus.

Police received unconfirmed reports that there was a shooting on the WKU campus and that a gunman was still on campus on Wednesday afternoon.

The reports are apparently based on an altercation between students that took place at two locations, starting at the South Campus Building and then moving to Pearce Ford Tower, Western Kentucky University's largest residence hall.

Police have yet to confirm if the reports of the shooting and gunman are indeed true, according to news reports from the Bowling Green, Ky. school.

However, the school's emergency warning system was activated as a precaution and students and employees were advised to remain indoors in secure locations. Since then, WKU has apprehended four individuals who are now in custody for questioning.

According to the Western Kentucky University website, "Individuals are free to move about campus as needed." A news conference is expected to take place at 4pm CT at Mass Media and Technology Hall.

"WKU Police, Bowling Green Police and State Police have conducted an extensive search of the building and the premises," said the website report.

Western Kentucky University is a public university in Bowling Green, Ky. The school has over 19,000 students.
