Big litter
A dog in Germany has given birth to 17 puppies.
The litter of Rhodesian Ridgebacks were all born naturally and
unusually for a birth that big, all the dogs and bitches survived.
Owner Ramona Wegemann said: "When dogs give birth to such a large
number of puppies, four to five puppies usually die within the first
week, but all of our puppies survived. This is incredible and
wonderful."
Mother Etana gave birth to the puppies in Ebereschenhof, north of
Berlin on 28 September and her owner had to feed them five times a day
for the first four weeks because their mother did not have enough milk.
Ramona added: “When I was finished feeding the last puppy, the first
was hungry again. I couldn't really sleep for the first three weeks."
