The U.S. Putting Tour is in discussions with groups in Canada and Europe who plan to hold national putting championships in those countries and send their winners to the 2011 USPT championship in Carlsbad, California in September.
Jim Hartley, founder of the U.S. Putting Tour said that worldwide participation in the USPT was his intention all along. "While we are called the U.S. Putting Tour and we run the USPT National Championship, it's no different than the U.S. Open or the British Open including the best golfers from around the world in their tournaments," explained Hartley.
Hartley went on to say that the National Championship is being renamed the USPT World Championship as of January 1, 2011 to avoid any confusion with golfers or tournament promoters internationally.
The USPT is getting a headstart on the 2011 season with a
putting tournament on December 26th in San Diego County. The
putting event at Encinitas Ranch, which runs between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. is an official qualifying event for the 2011
putting championship at The Crossings at Carlsbad.
Mr. Hartley indicated that golfers in the San Diego area can arrive at Encinitas Ranch any time between 9:00 and 3:00, sign up and play. Each golfers will play 36 holes on the club's practice putting green. Lowest total score will win and ties will be broken by a card-off.
