U.S. Transfers Control of Security to Iraqi Forces in Province of Babil

The United States military has transferred control of security to Iraqi forces in the province of Babil, a province that has seen violence drop significantly since rebels joined forces against al-Qaeda militants.

Babil becomes the 12^th province to be handed over to Iraqi forces and U.S. military officials have said the remaining six would be transferred in the near future.

During the handover ceremony in Babil Iraqi national security advisor Muwaffaq al-Rubaie said, “the security forces of Babil are self-reliant and we are proud to take over Babil from US forces.”

Last month control of security in Anbar was transferred to Iraqi forces.
