About 359 million glucose test strips are being recalled by Abbott Diabetes Care because they may cause incorrect readings. The Food and Drug Administration says the strips do not absorb enough blood, which may lead to a false low blood sugar reading.
The recall includes strips sold under the names Precision Xceed Pro, Precision Xtra, MediSense Optium, Optium, OptiumEZ and ReliOn Ultima. They were sold in the United States and Puerto Rico. Other recall information, including the lot numbers of the affected products, is posted on www.precisionoptiuminfo.com.
"Abbott is committed to the highest quality standards and is taking action to address and prevent this issue from recurring," said an Abbott Diabetes Care spokesman.
The company will replace all affected strips at no charge.
