NFL Week 8 Schedule and Odds: Giants and Steelers Battle while Cowboys Look to Avoid Third Straight Loss

Week 8 of the NFL season is upon us and after a very telling week 7 there are definitely a few teams that will be feeling the pressure of a must-win environment. While there are no teams that have seen their season end just yet the Cowboys, Eagles and Saints in the NFC and the Chargers, Colts and Jets in the AFC are all in danger of seeing their seasons slip away with a loss.

The Cowboys have lost Tony Romo for a few weeks and will face an uphill challenge with Brad Johnson at QB, the Eagles are at home against the Falcons but as the Packers can attest that’s not a guaranteed win, and the Saints have lost Reggie Bush for four to six weeks and have a rough game in London against the desperate Chargers.

Those Chargers have had difficulty playing with any type of consistency and a trip to London may not help matters any, the Colts have struggled all year and more specifically Peyton Manning who doesn’t look to be in midseason form, and after falling to the Raiders Brett Favre will almost certainly feel the New York pressure of leading the Jets to a win.

While there will be teams playing for their seasons the feature match-up of the week looks to be the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers as both clubs look good and have plenty of star power to draw the crowds. The Giants hold a one-game lead in the NFC East while the Steelers have already built a two-game lead in the AFC North.

The Steelers will be hosting the Giants as a 2.5point favorite on Sunday. Pittsburgh has won three straight and are coming off a 28-point win over the Bengals while the Giants are coming off a win against the 49ers.

The Baltimore Ravens showed some offense last week in their road win over the Dolphins and will be feeling some pressure to win at home against the Oakland Raiders who surprised the New York Jets last week. Baltimore is favored by 7-points.

Traveling to London without Reggie Bush isn’t exactly an ideal situation for the New Orleans Saints and having it count as a home game is even worse but that’s what they’re up against when the face the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Both teams are desperate for a win after dropping games last week but the Chargers are 3-point favorites.

Brett Favre will need to bounce back from last week’s disappointing loss to the Raiders but things couldn’t look better for the New York Jets as they host the Kansas City Chiefs who got hammered by the Titans last week and will be playing without Larry Johnson for the second straight week. The jets are listed as a 13.5-point favorite.

Trent Edwards had a huge game against the Chargers last week as the Buffalo Bills continued their surprising start and they’ll face their AFC East rivals the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The Dolphins will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak but the Bills are 1.5-point favorites on the road.

Tony Romo is out and the Dallas Cowboys are coming off an embarrassing blowout loss to the St. Louis Rams but they’re still a 1.5-point home favorite over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have won two straight including last week’s win over the Seahawks.

The Philadelphia Eagles are already behind the eight ball in the NFC East and need a win against the Atlanta Falcons to keep their playoff hopes alive but that may not be as easy as it looked when the season began. While the Eagles are 9-point favorites the Falcons have won two in a row. Both teams are coming off a bye week.

Matt Cassell seemed to silence some critics on Monday night as the New England Patriots pounded the Broncos and are now listed as a 7.5-point favorite as they host the resurgent St. Louis Rams. The Rams have won two straight after dropping their first four games of the year.

Many people expected the Carolina Panthers to be a solid team this year but not many expected the Arizona Cardinals to be just as good. Carolina is coming off a 23-point win over the Saints and are listed as a 4-point home favorite over Arizona who is coming off a bye.

It has been an awful year for the Detroit Lions who are yet to win a game and it won’t get any easier for them on Sunday as they host the Washington Redskins on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a loss to the Texans while the Redskins beat the Browns. Washington is a 7.5-point road favorite.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a bye week and will be looking to make a push towards the AFC elite on Sunday when they take on the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland is coming off a disappointing loss to the Redskins and could see their season take a serious hit if they lose on Sunday. Jacksonville has been listed as a 7-point home favorite.

In a battle of the two bottom teams in the NFC West the San Francisco 49ers will be hosting the Seattle Seahawks and the loser will almost certainly be done for the year. The 49ers will be playing under new head coach Mike Singletary while the Seahawks will once again be without Matt Hasselbeck. San Fran is a 5-point favorite.

After dropping their first four games of the season the Houston Texans have won two in a row and will be hosting a Cincinnati Bengals squad that hasn’t won yet. The Texans beat the winless Lions last week while the Bengals were hammered by the Steelers. Houston is a 9-point favorite.

In a Monday Night Football showdown the Tennessee Titans will be putting their perfect record on the line when they host the Indianapolis Colts. Indy was blown out by the Packers last week while the Titans had no trouble with the Chiefs. Tennessee is a 4-point favorite.
