Mel Gibson is selling his Costa Rican home because it is not private enough.

The actor-and-director has put the 500 acre property on the market with an asking price of $35 million, because he feels the press intrude on him when he’s there.

Listing agent Sandra Miller said: “He bought it for a getaway. Now he goes there and paparazzi follow him.”

The property, named Hacienda Dorada, includes a seven-bedroom main house and a pair of two-bedroom homes, each with a private pool.

It also has a beach on the country’s Nicoya Peninsula, and the estate also includes hundreds of acres of jungle and is staffed full-time.

The property was bought by Mel for $25.8 million in 2007. Recently it had been reported that part of the property was illegally registered at this time, but Sandra Miller said that report was erroneous.

In June of this year, Gibson put another of his properties – a Malibu residence - on the market for $14.5 million.

Mel has had a tough year in 2010, after he and his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva became embroiled in a bitter custody battle over their 13-month-old daughter Lucia.

He has also been branded "homophobic" and "anti-Semitic" by actress Winona Ryder.

Winona - who is Jewish – recently revealed: "I remember, like, fifteen years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties. And he was really drunk. I was with my friend, who's gay. He made a really horrible gay joke.

"And somehow it came up that I was Jewish. He said something about 'oven dodgers,' but I didn't get it. I'd never heard that before. It was just this weird, weird moment. I was like, 'He's anti-Semitic and he's homophobic.' No one believed me!"
