Alexandra Shulman says there's no point trying to be "chic" over Christmas.

The British Vogue editor insists she doesn't worry what she looks like on the big day itself as she's more concerned she and her guests are having a good time.

She said: "One the day itself I'm lucky enough to have a rambling, extended family of exes, step-children and new partners, and I try to seduce as many of them as possible to join me, as well as any friends I can rope in.

Despite the fact that nobody knows anyone else that closely, it has worked surprisingly well (so far). I'm the cook and the others are my army of sous-chefs. We open champagne at midday with a platter of smoked salmon bagels and start as we mean to continue. All attempts at chic are washed away in a tsunami of wrapping paper and noise, but I wouldn't have it any other way."

While Alexandra isn't concerned how she looks on Christmas Day, she says it's important to invest in a good pair of shoes to wear to all the festive parties.

She told Britain's Telegraph newspaper: "A pair of beautiful heels is the best party investment: you'll be amazed how much time people spend looking at the ground, so shoes always get noticed."
