Kansas City Man Accused Rape While Impersonating A Police Officer

A Kansas City, Kan., man with prior sexual offense convictions has been charged with impersonating an officer and raping a woman.

The Kansas City Star reported that 55-year-old Wesley Earl Watson was charged with the alleged attack Wednesday in Wyandotte County District Court.

Prosecutors say the woman got into Watson's car Monday after he accused her of shoplifting and told her she was under arrest.

The Star reported that officials sought to have Watson committed as a sexually violent predator. But a Wichita jury was deadlocked on the commitment, and Watson was released in January under a form of intense supervision that required him to wear a GPS tracking device.

The GPS unit helped authorities track him down.
