A Rwandan military court has sentenced two army officers to eight years of prison for their role in the 1994 killings of 13 Catholic clerics.
The murders took place during the extremely violent 100 day period in which nearly 800,000 Tutsis and Hutus were massacred.
According to the two sentenced army captains from the Rwandan Patriotic Front, John Butera and Dieudonne Rukeba, the Catholic clerics were murdered because they had been working with Hutu militants who were slaughtering Tutsis.
While neither man was convicted of actually murdering the clerics they bore the responsibility for the soldiers who carried out the acts.
The genocide that took place during 1994 came to an end when the RPF took control of Rwanda.
