A child killer has requested a speedy execution so that delays would not “drag out the misery” for himself and his victim’s family. Marco Allen Chapman asked to be put to death and filed an affidavit last year asked that public defenders not be permitted to file additional appeals.
The Kentucky Supreme Court cleared the way Thursday for Chapman’s execution. The court issued an order Thursday to set the execution in motion. Chapman could be put to death as early as next month.
The 36-year-old’s defense attorneys have called his request to be executed “suicide by court” and are arguing that he is not competent.
Chapman was given the death penalty after being convicted of the 2002 murders of 6-year-old Cody Sharon and 7-year-old Chelbi Sharon.
His execution is scheduled for November 21.
