Suspect in Elizabeth Smart Abduction Enters Not Guilty Plea

Brian David Mitchell, the man accused of abducting Elizabeth Smart in 2002, has had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf by a federal magistrate judge in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mitchell has been found incompetent to stand trial twice before and on Friday he was removed from the courtroom after he began singing church hymns.

The judge, Samuel Alba, set a Nov. 12 date to rule on whether or not Mitchell should undergo another competency evaluation.

Smart was abducted from her bedroom in June 2002 when she was 14-years-old. Nine months after her abduction she was spotted traveling with Mitchell and another woman by an elderly couple who then alerted authorities.
