Possible Recall for Carter’s Baby Clothes After Rash Complaints

The government is warning parents of young babies about Carter’s Inc. baby clothing with tag-less labels. Nearly 400 babies who wore the clothing developed rashes on their backs. No recall has been issued yet.

Nearly 110 million pieces of clothing, including knit items, body suits, shirts and pajamas, are a part of the warning. The affected products are a part of the fall 2007 line. "It appears that a very small percentage of children can be allergic to one or more ingredients in the labels. The solid, rather than stenciled, background on the fall 2007 labels appears to have produced a more pronounced and noticeable reaction among those children who are most allergic to the ink," the Atlanta, Georgia company said in an announcement on their web site.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that parents should stop using the clothing if their child develops a rash. It is unclear how severe the rash can be and if it requires medical attention.

The clothing was sold at Carter’s retail stores, department stores and other chain stores and may still be on retail shelves.
