Jimmy Clausen was 14/26 passing for 201 yards and a touchdown, Michael Floyd had 107 yards receiving on four receptions and a TD and James Aldridge collected 84 yards on the ground and two touchdowns as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-2) cruised to a 33-7 victory over the Washington Huskies (0-7) on Saturday.
As strong as the Irish were offensively it was their defense that dominated the game as they limited the Huskies to just 124 total yards of offense and nine first downs. The Irish defense gave their offense a 15 minute advantage in time possession as well.
Notre Dame scored on their first possession as Clausen hooked up with Floyd on a 51-yard touchdown pass and Golden Tate added a 21-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter to move in front 14-0. The Irish offense then seemed to stall and could only manage a field goal the rest of the half and went into the break in front 17-0.
The second half opened for the Irish much like the first quarter and when Aldridge punched it in from 4-yards out Notre Dame was up 24-0. That lead was extended to 27-0 when Walker connected on his second field goal of the game and the Irish went into the fourth quarter with an insurmountable lead.
Aldridge capped of his big day with a 3-yard touchdown run early in the fourth.
Washington managed to avoid the home shutout when Ronnie Fouch found ‘Andre Goodwin on a 6-yard toss but it was little consolation for a season that has been awful.
Notre Dame will host Pittsburg next week while Washington travels to USC in Pac-10 play.
