World Series Game Four: Philadelphia Phillies Look to Take 3-1 Lead as Tampa Bay Rays Try to Even Series

After taking Game Three with a dramatic ninth inning on Saturday night the Philadelphia Phillies grabbed a 2-1 lead against the Tampa Bay Rays in their best-of-seven World Series and could take a huge step towards their first title since 1980 with a win on Sunday as the two clubs meet again in Philly on Sunday night.

The Phillies will be going with their big right hander Joe Blanton (9-12 4.69 ERA) who hasn’t lost in a Phillies uniform since coming over from the Oakland Athletics in July. Blanton posted a 4-0 record for Philly and the club went 11-4 in his starts. In the postseason Blanton looked impressive against the Brewers in the NLDS and was effective in his lone start against the Dodgers in the NLCS, both games won by the Phillies.

Blanton did face the Rays in the regular season when he was with the A’s and pitched six innings and allowed four runs.

Tampa will be relying on Andy Sonnanstine (13-9 4.38 ERA) who shook off a disappointing end to the regular season in which he dropped his last three decisions with two great starts in the postseason. He collected wins against the White Sox and Red Sox to help the Rays advance to their first ever World Series. Tampa fans should find some hope in Sonnastine starting as he typically wins in bunches, putting together win streaks of 5, 4 and three during the regular season.

Game Four of the World Series will get started at 8:00 p.m. ET.
