BCS Week 9 Rankings Keep Texas Longhorns #1 Alabama Crimson Tide and Penn State Remain #2 and #3

The BCS Rankings for Week 9 are out and no surprise to anybody the Texas Longhorns remain on track for a trip to the Jan.8 BCS Championship Game in Miami as they hold the #1 spot while the Alabama Crimson Tide and Penn State Nittany Lions continue to fight for the #2 spot.

Alabama held the edge this week coming off a victory against the Tennessee Volunteers but Penn State closed the gap after a big win on the road against Ohio State. The Tide have the advantage with a tougher schedule down the stretch and if they remain unbeaten they would likely hold off the Nittany Lions.

Of course there is plenty of season left and the Longhorns are no lock to go undefeated themselves as they still have to face Texas Tech next week and have the Big 12 championship game. The Crimson Tide still have to travel to LSU and have an SEC championship game to think about where they could face a Georgia Bulldogs squad looking for revenge.

Penn State has no championship game to look for in the Big Ten and their only remaining big game will be Michigan State which could hurt their chances of earning a ticket to Miami.

Sitting in at #4 are the Oklahoma Sooners and with a loss to the Longhorns already on their resume they will likely miss the Big 12 championship game which would hurt their chances at reaching the BCS Championship Game.

The USC Trojans are another team that lacks schedule strength and Ohio State’s loss didn’t help them any on Saturday. They don’t have much left on the table but if they get through unscathed and a few teams ahead of them fall they may just sneak in. Of course there are a couple teams behind them that could leapfrog them if they win out.

One of those teams is the Georgia Bulldogs who are now #6 after knocking off the LSU Tigers on Saturday. If the Bulldogs could top the Florida Gators and then win the SEC championship they would likely jump the Trojans.

The same could be said for the Texas Tech Raid Raiders who are at #7 and remain undefeated. A Big 12 schedule that still requires them to play Texas, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma would be enough to get them in the title game if they run the table and take the Big 12 championship.
