2008 World Series Game Four: Philadelphia Phillies Power Way Past Tampa Bay Rays, One Win Away from Title

Ryan Howard was 3-4 with a pair of home runs and 5 RBIs, Jimmy Rollins went 3-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored and Joe Blanton tossed six innings allowing just two runs on four hits and added a solo blast at the plate as the Philadelphia Phillies powered past the Tampa Bay Rays 10-2 on Sunday to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven World Series and now need just one more win to collect their second championship in franchise history.

Philadelphia got on the board in the first inning after Rays starter Andy Sonnanstine walked in a run and in the third they moved in front 2-0 after Pedro Feliz hit a two-out single to left that plated Chase Utley.

Tampa cut their deficit in half in the top of the fourth after Carl Crawford hit a two-out solo homer to left off Blanton but Philadelphia countered in the bottom half of the frame with a Howard opposite field blast that brought home Rollins and Jayson Werth to push the Phillies advantage to 5-1.

The Rays tried to get back into the game in the fifth as Eric Hinske came off the bench and hit a bomb deep over the center field wall. Blanton got that run back himself though as he hit an Edwin Jackson delivery over the left field wall to become the 15^th major league pitcher to hit a homerun in the World Series.

That 6-2 lead was pushed to 10-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Werth hit a two-run homer to left and after Utley walked Howard followed with a two-run bomb to right. J.C. Romero came on in the top of the ninth and set the Rays down to preserve the win.

Philadelphia will have a chance to wrap up the World Series on Monday as they host Tampa in Game Five.
