U.S. Helicopter Shot Down in Afghanistan

A U.S. helicopter was shot down in central Afghanistan in the Wardak province but all ten on board escaped unharmed.

The helicopter was said to be engaged with Taliban militants when it came under fire and was brought down after sustaining damage. Early reports have said two Taliban fighters were killed in the exchange while all on board the helicopter were able to evacuate the area.

There has been a surge in violence in Wardak, an area with a high concentration of Taliban militants.

In a separate attack a suicide bomber disguised as a police officer killed two U.S. troops in the northern Afghanistan province of Baghlan. Those two soldiers had been attending a meeting at a police station when the bomber detonated the explosive.
