Asked for whom they would vote if the general election were held today, 54 percent of the voters in the survey answered McCain, 34 percent said Obama, while the rest said they preferred another candidate, said they did not know, or did not answer.However, when asked who they thought would win the election, 53 percent of the voters said Obama, 29 percent said McCain, and 18 percent said another candidate, said they did not know or did not reply.
An Capital Survey Research Center poll taken earlier this month showed McCain ahead of Obama by 55 percent to 35 percent in Alabama. In that survey, 46 percent said Obama would win the election.
When asked to list the major issue that the next president should address, 51 percent of the voters in the latest survey said the troubled economy. Next highest on the list were two other issues: terrorism, cited by 6 percent of the voters, and the national debt and deficit, mentioned by another 6 percent.
Only 10 percent of the voters said they were satisfied with the way things are going in the nation, while 83 percent said they were dissatisfied.
As for Alabama, the voters expressed more optimism, with 51 percent saying they were satisfied with things and 39 percent expressing dissatisfaction.
