A Maryland teenaged pleaded guilty Monday to the murders of his father, mother and two younger brothers as they slept. Nicholas Browning entered a guilty plea to four counts of first degree murder.
The 16-year-old walked home from a friend’s house around midnight in February and shot his father, John, mother Tamara, and brothers Gregory and Benjamin, in the head while they slept. After murdering his family, Browning returned to his friend’s house and continued playing video games.
The next day, Browning and his friend went to a mall. He made several calls to his family’s house and left messages saying he loved them and would be home soon. Browning was driven home by a friend’s father. He pretended to find his parents murdered in their bed. The friend’s father called police.
Browning later confessed to the killings and told authorities where to find the murder weapon. At the time of the murders, Browning was 15 and was too young to face the death penalty.
Prosecutors are seeking a maximum of two consecutive and two concurrent life sentences. Browning could be eligible for parole after serving as many as 50 years behind bars. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2.
