The Colombian army is attempting to encourage armed guerrillas to return to their families by installing Christmas trees in the jungle near their camps to remind them of home.
The commanders behind ‘Operation Christmas’ have picked a supply path
the rebels are known to use and decorated the first tree with sparkling
blue lights.
This has been rigged with motion sensors which will turn on the lights
when someone walks by. A sign next to the tree says "If Christmas can
come to the jungle, you too can come home. Demobilise. At Christmas,
everything is possible."
