A long running British radio drama series has been criticised for lacking respect for turkeys.
Listeners to the popular series ‘The Archers’ on BBC Radio Four
complained about the “nasty” and callous” treatment of the birds after
inexperienced poultry keepers could be heard struggling to catch them
for Christmas slaughter.
One person said: "I was taken aback by the callous attitude and lack of respect and empathy shown towards turkeys."
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals added:
"Although we are aware this is a popular entertainment show, it does
raise serious questions about how animals are treated, particularly at
this time of year."
