A coyote was rescued by US fire-fighters after she became trapped on a sheet of ice in Chicago.
The animal – which was named Holly by the officials – was first spotted
floating down Lake Michigan by passersby before a rescue operation was
mounted with animal control officers.
A fire department diver said she probably was sniffing around for
catfish at the water's edge when the ice she was standing on broke away.
At one point the shivering coyote jumped into the freezing cold water
to swim back to shore before quickly ditching that plan and getting
back on to the ice sheet.
Jeff Weber, Chicago firefighter said: "We hauled her up into the boat.
She was pretty well frozen, not giving us any resistance. I think she
was happy to see us. Got some blankets on her, warmed her up, brought
her back into shore."
