Texas based J and D Produce has recalled almost 7,000 cases of cilantro and parsley for salmonella contamination. The company announced the recall after samples of the product tested positive for the bacteria.
The recall includes 4,411 cases of cilantro and 2,498 cases of parsley packed between November 30 and December 6. The products were distributed to retail stores and wholesalers in Canada and the United States.
J and D president James Bassetti said the company’s facilities began taking extra precautions after receiving the positive test result. "We have a good track record, but we'll bring our expectations and standards to even higher levels. We've already begun improving our systems,” said Bassetti.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
