Casey Anthony, the 22-year-old mother charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee Anthony, pled not guilty to the charge in an Orange County, FL. courthouse on Tuesday.
While Anthony did not appear at her arraignment a written not guilty plea had been entered earlier. Casey Anthony remains held behind bars without bond.
Anthony has denied any involvement in the death of her daughter, telling investigators she dropped Caylee off with a babysitter and when she returned the two were gone. According to police interviews Casey said her daughter went missing in June, when she was still two-years-old, but she did not report Caylee missing until July.
Investigators quickly determined that Casey Anthony was lying about a babysitter and began searching her car and found evidence that supported their belief that she was involved in the death of Caylee. Hair samples and DNA evidence taken from the trunk have become key points in the investigation.
Earlier this month DNA evidence taken from the trunk indicated a decomposing body had been present and the hair samples were connected to Caylee. Investigators also found chloroform in the vehicle and found evidence of Internet searches related to chloroform on a computer used by Casey Anthony.
The trail against Casey Anthony is set to start Jan. 5 where she is to face charges of manslaughter, aggravated child abuse and four counts of lying to investigators in addition to the first degree murder charge.
