Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers will battle the rejuvenated Portland Trail Blazers in their opener for the 2008-09 NBA season on Tuesday night.
In their first game on the 2008-09 NBA schedule, the Blazers will travel to L.A. to battle the Lakers, the reigning Western Conference champions, at 10:30pm ET on TNT.
This game will be the much-anticipated debut of Greg Oden, the No. 1 pick of the 2007 Draft. Oden missed all of last season in recovery from microfracture knee surgery, but will now don the Blazers jersey for the first time.
Oden leads a rookie class that is considered the best in the NBA, along with Rudy Fernandez, one of the stars of the Spanish Olympic team, and lottery pick Jerryd Bayless.
The rookie class will join one of the league's best collections of young core players in Brandon Roy, the 2006-07 NBA Rookie of the Year, LaMarcus Aldridge, Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw, all of which have been in the league five years or less.
For the Lakers, they return the majority of their team that reached the 2008 NBA Finals, with the key return of Andrew Bynum, one of the league's best young centers. Bynum missed the entire playoffs due to injury, but will return to join one of the NBA's best frontcourts with Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom.
Bryant will begin the season in attempt to end the questions of his health and his ability to win an NBA championship with former teammate Shaquille O'Neal.
