King Solomon Mines Possibly Found in Jordan

Archaeologists say they may have found the ruins of the mysterious King Solomon’s Mines. A desert site in southern Jordan is believed to contain the mines. Researchers used carbon dating techniques to determine that copper production took place there around the time Solomon was said to be king of the Israelites.

"We can't believe everything ancient writings tell us. But this research represents a confluence between the archaeological and scientific data and the Bible,” says Thomas Levy of the University of California.

The site was found in Khirbat en-Nahas, a region south of the Dead Sea. The Old Testament says the area is where the Kingdom of Edom was located.

The mystery of King Solomon’s Mines has been the subject of many films and books. Until now, nothing was known about the mine’s possible location or whether they existed at all.
