Recall on Parsley and Cilantro has been Expanded to Other Vegetables
Yesterday's recall on parsley and cilantro has been expanded to include other vegetables for fear of cross contamination. The recall has already affected 7,000 cases of parsley and cilantro for being contaminated with salmonella. The expanded recall is for 19 other products that ran on the same packing lines as the contaminated foods.
The company that shipped the contaminated products, J&D Produce, has stepped up measures to prevent another such outbreak. They have sanitized all of their production equipment and have increased inspections and consultants.
J&D was not linked to a separate outbreak of salmonella stemming from alfalfa sprouts. The sprouts were distributed by Tiny Greens Organic Farm and have been linked most closely with Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches stores.
