Three masked burglars in Manhattan, pulled off a ballsy Christmas Day smash and grab heist and busted into a West Side jewelry store making off with loot up to $100,000 dollars in jewels, according to the NYPD.
The suspects' plot went down just before 5 p.m. Saturday, as the trio broke into nail salon on the ground-floor of a W. 23rd St. building, and then climbed up on to the roof. From there, they jumped onto the roof of the neighboring building, which houses an Ultra Diamond shop within a Burlington Coat factory on the first floor.
After gaining access through an unlocked rooftop door, the men headed down the stairs to the first floor where they used a sledgehammer to bust a hole in the wall directly behind the Ultra Diamonds' jewelry counter.
Once inside, the brazen thieves used hammers to bust open glass showcases and then stole jewels on display. To finish off their daring caper, they then broke into a nearby safe and stole more loot, and then fled through the same hole they had entered.
"These guys were good," said a Burlington Coat Factory employee who did not give his name but called the thieves "Grinches."
To cover their tracks, the Christmas Day Bandits disabled the store's security video cameras - but apparently missed one. The NYPD released video from the camera Wednesday morning.
