Britain's Prince William tried to save the life of a young mother who was dying of swine flu.

The royal diverted his helicopter during a flight from his RAF base in North Wales to ferry a life support machine and specialist staff from Leicester to Manchester, where Sarah Bowden was critically ill in hospital.

However, unfortunately, the prince's efforts were in vain and the 20-year-old mum died just eleven days after giving birth to her son Harry.

Her stepmom Kelly Sarginson said: "Prince William gave her a chance of survival. We will always be grateful."

Sarah suffered swine flu symptoms at the beginning of December, but went into labor at North Manchester General Hospital before she could do anything about them.

She gave birth on December 7 and suffered multiple organ failure 24 hours later.

RAF helicopter pilot Prince William then flew a life support machine and staff from Glenfield to Manchester to keep Sarah alive on December 9, however, she died on December 18, after spending a week in a coma.

Sarah's dad Mark Bowden told The Sun newspaper: "Swine flu is being massively underplayed by the government. The public seem to think it's like a cold. But it's killing fit and healthy young people."
