Violante Placido’s mother always wanted her to be an actress.
‘The American’ star – whose parents are ‘The Godfather’ actress
Simonetta Stefanelli and Italian TV star Michele Placido – showed early
signs of wanting a career in showbiz, but insists she was never forced
into the industry by her family.
She said: “When I was very young, I used to watch these Marilyn Monroe movies and I would dance and sing along to the songs.
“I think my mother might have imagined me becoming an actress one day, but she never put pressure on me.”
Violante played a prostitute who has a romance with George Clooney’s
hitman character in ‘The American’ and she believes the two are
“purified” through their love for one another in the movie.
She explained: “They live on the margins somehow. That is what at the
beginning brings them close. They are damned in a way but together they
purify themselves.”
Violante can next be seen in movie sequel ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ – in which she will star opposite Nicolas Cage.
She has been shooting the film – which is based on the Marvel comic book series – in Romania and plays the character Nadya.
