Michigan authorities confirm the bodies of two people trapped in rubble of a Wayne furniture store have been found. A 54-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man, who were both employees, were trapped after a gas leak caused Franks Furniture to explode.
Wayne Fire Chief Mel Moore said the woman’s body was found around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday while the man’s body was found earlier in the day. The explosion occurred around 9 a.m. The owner of the store, 64-year-old Paul Franks, was rescued from the debris shortly after the blast. He is in serious but stable condition.
A spokeswoman for Consumers Energy said crews were investigating a gas leak when the store exploded. A gas main was shut off after the explosion. Homes and businesses near the store were evacuated as firefighters got the situation under control.
