Despite uncertain economic futures for Americans, PostcardMania, along with VitaminWater and SmartWater, is sponsoring a local Tampa Bay artist, Colin O’Neal, in an upcoming art show – using the power of art to help others alleviate financial stress. Emory Capital Management and The Residences at Windward Passage are 2 additional local businesses that will also be sponsoring the art show.
The art show is to be held in the penthouse of The Residences at Windward Passage, 202 Windward Passage Island Estates, in Clearwater on Saturday November 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening.
Does putting money behind the arts make good economic sense? Historically, entertainment of all forms booms in troubled economic climates. Recently, art fairs across the country and in Canada have been experiencing record attendance and sales. Just weeks ago, as Wall Street was plummeting, Sotheby’s two day sales of new works by British artist Damien Hirst topped off at over $200,000,000.00. According to Peter Goddard of the Toronto Star, “…surprisingly enough, from signs of a troubled economy…art has emerged as an even more golden commodity than, er, gold.”
After years of owning successful art galleries in Birmingham, Alabama; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Dallas, Texas, Colin O’Neal has decided to return both to his home and to his passion of creating vibrant works of pop art. Colin began his professional career at the age of 12 when his art teacher at the time entered Colin’s work in a black-tie gallery exhibition where he outsold all other artists by 5 times the average.
O’Neal developed his own unique style of mixed media on canvas after studying the works of his favorite artists – Leonardo DaVinci, Andy Warhol, Peter Max, Roy Lichtenstein and Gottfried Helnwein. His soaring commissioned sales seem to be an indication that pop art just may be an antidote to economic gloom.
PostcardMania is willing to bet on it.
