A Belgian man found 300,000 Euros in cash in the vault of a former bank he was renovating.
Ferhat Kaya had purchased the property - a former branch of the Dexia bank in Ghent – as a base for his accounting firm and after turning down an expensive estate agent quote to remove an old safe, he called his two friends in to help.
One helper Murat Tufan said: "When the vault was open it revealed bags of 20 and 50 euro bills. The receipts were still there, dated December 31, 2001. We started counting, and it came to 300,000 Euros."
Although the money had been left by the bank nearly a decade ago, Ferhat decided to call the police.
Dexia Bank spokesperson Ulrike Pommee said an investigation had been launched.
