Sen. Barack Obama will host a 30-minute infomercial on his campaign on NBC, FOX and CBS on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET.
The infomercial will also air on Univision, MSNBC and two cable networks that cater to African-Americans, BET and TV One.
It will be the first time in 16 years that a presidential candidate has bought network time, in prime time, for an elongated campaign commercial. Ross Perot did this in 1992.
Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate, arranged to buy Wednesday’s 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. slot on CBS, NBC and Spanish-language network Univision. Fox Broadcasting joined the field after Major League Baseball agreed to delay the start time of Wednesday's World Series game.
ABC did not join the field because they did not want to move their hit show “Pushing Daisies,” not because of political reasons.
NBC preempted its hour-long series "Knight Rider" and expanded the game show "Deal or No Deal" from 60 to 90 minutes to fill the extra time. CBS pushed "The New Adventures of Old Christine" to 8:30 p.m., canceling an episode of its new series "Gary Unmarried."
Obama reportedly paid more than $3 million for the TV spot, a price tag his campaign can afford after setting all-time records for campaign financing and donations. The campaign has raised $150 million in September alone.
