'Daybreak' has hit an all-time ratings low.
The troubled ITV1 breakfast programme - fronted by former 'The One
Show' hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley - has seen viewing
figures plunge to a new low, with just 400,000 people tuning in to see
Wednesday's (29.12.10) show.
After being plagued with poor audience figures since its launch in
September, the latest 'Daybreak' statistics look even worse when put in
comparison with the programme's BBC One rival 'Breakfast', which drew
in 1.26 million viewers on the same day.
An insider explained: "The ratings low is a shock, as it was thought the show had come through the worst.
"It was thought it should have done all right yesterday as it was the
first day back to work for many people after Christmas. But 'Breakfast'
absolutely whipped it."
With the show currently being fronted by stand-in hosts Kate Garraway
and Dan Lobb, ITV1 executives blamed the dip in viewers on the festive
period.
A spokesperson told The Sun newspaper: "The changes to normal viewing
patterns as a result of the Christmas holiday have affected the
performance of all channels' breakfast programming this week."
