Ford Recalls Nearly 20K 2011 Trucks and SUVs

Ford Motor company announced Thursday the recall of 19,600 trucks and crossover SUVs. Fires in the cabs of two Ford 150 trucks at a Ford assembly plant in Michigan prompted the recall. The fires were investigated and it was determined that a body control module was the source of the fires. An electrical short can cause overheating and in some cases a fire.

The recall includes 2011 F 150 trucks and Super Duty truck models F 250 through F 550, as well as Edge and Lincoln MKX models. Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said the affected vehicles “will be updated to eliminate a small risk of an unattended vehicle fire.”

"We are notifying affected owners and asking them to bring their vehicles to their local dealers to determine if the module was built during the affected time period and whether replacement is necessary,” Sherwood added.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will receive a letter from Ford the week of January 10. Meanwhile, Chrysler Group is recalling nearly 145,000 trucks and crossover vehicles for three separate problems.

The Chrysler recall includes 22,274 2008 to 2011 model Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 trucks for potential loss of steering, 65,180 2007 to 2008 model Dodge Journey crossover wagons for problems with airbags not deploying, and 56,611 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks because of a stalling risk.
