More than a dozen bomb blasts have rocked India’s north-eastern state Assam killing at least 61 people and leaving more than 150 injured.
Officials have said at least 18 bombs exploded with the majority taking place in the capital Guwahati. All the explosions were said to have occurred within an hour of each other and appeared to target busy areas including markets, streets and government offices.
Authorities have blamed the United Liberation Front of Assam, saying only ULFA could coordinate such a large scale attack. The separatist group has fought with security forces for decades in an effort to gain independence for the Assamese people.
ULFA has denied any involvement in the bombings, calling the accusation a “disinformation campaign” against the group.
