Maggie Q loves Donna Karan because she makes clothes for real women.

The 'Nikita' actress - who is a vegan and animal rights activist and refuses to wear leather or fur - remembers coveting clothes by the US fashion designer when she was a teenager but admitted she wasn't grown up enough to wear them.

She said: "I remember appreciating Donna Karan when I was a teenager, but I couldn't wear it because I wasn't a woman yet.

"You have to be a woman to wear her clothes - or at least half a woman and put it on to be a full woman."

Maggie is also a fan of designers Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons and Rick Owens as well as Stella McCartney and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

She explained to WWD: "I absolutely love The Row. Oh, and I don't know what I'd do without Stella McCartney and her bags and shoes!"

The 31-year-old plays a rogue assassin in television series 'Nikita' and thinks fashion is an important part of her character.

She said: "I don't believe in gratuitous fashion. I like it to enhance the character, not drown her. I love how Nikita is low maintenance. Her style should be tough and simple."
