The Crown Princess of Denmark - who is expecting twins with her husband Crown Prince Frederik – will reportedly be induced at Copenhagen University Hospital later today, even though her due date is not until mid January.
The babies' father Crown Prince Frederick reportedly has a place on the birthing team and will be on hand with a midwife, two doctors and a pediatrician in the closed maternity ward according to Danish tabloid newspaper B.T.
It has also been reported that two resuscitation machines have been added to Mary's birthing room.
Mary and her husband broke royal tradition by staying at home in Amalienborg Palace over Christmas to be near the hospital instead of going on their annual trip to Schackenborg Manor with Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik and the rest of the family.
The Danish palace has also confirmed Mary will not take part in a traditional New Year reception held at Christiansborg Palace in central Copenhagen.
Mary and Frederik have two other children Prince Christian, five and Princess Isabella, three.
